History

Kish Island's history dates back to ancient times, around 2,500 years ago. It was initially inhabited by indigenous tribes who relied on fishing and trade. The island’s strategic location made it a vital point for merchants traveling between Persia (modern-day Iran), India, and the Arabian Peninsula.

During the Achaemenid Empire (circa 550–330 BC), Kish became an important trade center, facilitating commerce along the Persian Gulf. Its location along key maritime trade routes allowed merchants to exchange goods such as pearls, spices, and textiles.

After the conquests of Alexander the Great, Kish was influenced by Hellenistic culture. The island, along with others in the region, saw the introduction of Greek customs, art, and architecture.
